Life designing and Coaching

Life designing works both for individuals and for couples.  It helps you set your 'true north' - the direction you want to head.  It helps achieve clarity and a feeling of control.  Life designing can be done in several sessions or during a 2-day retreat (and you have the option of doing this as a workshop with friends) . The choice is yours, to be living by design...or by default.

When we are born we not given a manual of 'how to do life', we just get on with it.  By the time we are adults a lot of what we do and how we do it has become automatic - and even if we want to change it can often be difficult.  Something doesn't 'feel right' or we feel trapped, in a rut.  But where to start?  How to get out of the rut and decide on the direction that is right for you? That is where life designing comes in.

Dream it

Time of out of your normal 'busy-ness' to climb a hill and look at the horizon.  What is it you really want from life?  What direction do you want to go?  I often meet people who want a change but consciously have no idea what.  It is like a dream that you can't quite remember.

I help you to clarify the things that are important to you (rather than the stuff that you think you 'should' value) - the stuff that gets you out of bed in the morning -  and the things that you are likely to regret if you don't do them. 

We do a type of review - or audit.  This is an opportunity for you to get to know yourself - your values, beliefs and motivations.  All the things you don't normal think about.  We do this for all parts of your life - for example, relationships, health and fitness, emotional well-being, finances, career, personal development, spiritual.  Is your life balanced?  Where are the gaps?  What do you ideally want in each area? Why do you want it?  This process starts to tease out your values and beliefs.

Plan it

Armed with a clear direction, your 'true north' and solid foundations of self awareness, you can then start setting some goals for each area of life.  Things you want to achieve, to experience, to learn and to start doing/stop doing, to improve!

From here we look at the habits and routines you have so that these align to your goals and, ultimately, the vision you have for your life. 

It is all a bit like strategic planning for living!  Once you have clarity on your direction, it makes decision making so much easier and it provides meaning and purpose...even when things are difficult.

Live it

Now that you have goals and actions you can start putting the plan into action.  It is about trying out new ways of behaving and slowly bedding in new habits.  With clarity on the direction you are going, you start to become aware of alternative choices and opportunities.

Should you choose to, you can implement your "Living by Design" plan yourself OR you can choose on-going coaching (weekly, fortnightly or monthly) which helps keep you on track with regular review sessions.

Think of the process as a little like sailing - you know where you are heading but you need keep tacking for the wind and every now and then you need to pull into a safe haven and let the storm pass.  Sometimes it will be plain sailing and it will feel wonderful but at other times it will be more challenging and will be harder work. But overall, you continue to head in the direction YOU want and you know WHY you are heading in that direction..

Life Coaching

Life coaching can be the follow-up to the Life Design process - helping you keep in track, providing accountability, feedback and a sounding board.  It can also be used separately if there are specific issues you want to work on or goals you want to achieve.  As your coach I help you set priorities, goals and actions.  I provide a safe, non-judgemental sounding board and ask questions to help you clarify your thinking and see all your choices.

We all have a 'default' set of reactions and behaviours.  Coaching can help you firstly become aware of these, and then to consciously make changes.  Think about learning something new - maybe a sport, a language, driving.  Initially it felt really difficult, something you would never master.  After lots of practice it started to get easier.  Or you gave up.  If it was something really important though, you persevered.  I hated learning to drive.  It was terrifying....I was convinced I was going to crash the car!  But I really wanted to be independent and to be able to transport myself I kept going.  It is the same for all our habits and behaviours.  We can learn new ways of being - if it is important enough to us.

Coaching and hypnotherapy can work really well together too - think of it as a 'turbo-boost' to your motivation!

Practical stuff 

Life designing and coaching are $110 per session.  The initial session is usually 60-90 mins and subsequent sessions are 60 mins.
A minimum of 4 hours is recommended to get your "Living By Design" plan together - and this can be weekly, fortnightly or over a two-day retreat.  For every hour with your coach, allow yourself 2 hours, minimum for self reflection and 'homework'!

Should you choose, stay at The Summit Lodge and complete your Life By Design retreat, discounts are available on accommodation (dependent on length of stay and number of rooms booked (up to 3 doubles).
